BOVONI LANDFILL SEAWEED ACCEPTANCE SCHEDULE

(St. Thomas) April 27, 2021 - The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) advises the public that seaweed will only be accepted at the Bovoni Landfill on Thursdays and Fridays as per the following guidelines:

  1. Loads will be accepted at the back of the Bovoni landfill by the western berm facing Bolongo Bay.
  2. Utilize the old access road. Drive up to the top, veer to the left, go around the hill then proceed down the hill to the western berm.
  3. Trucks are expected to turn around then reverse and off-load.
  4. Everyone is asked to use caution when traversing the landfill

 

Businesses are reminded; it is against the law for waste generated at commercial establishments to be deposited at residential bin sites.

UPDATED  HOURS OF OPERATION AT THE VIWMA SOLID WASTE FACILITIES

 

(Virgin Islands) April 27, 2021 - The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) solid waste facilities on all islands will operate according to the following schedule effective Monday, May 3, 2021:

 

ST. CROIX

  • Anguilla Landfill:
    • Monday – Friday          7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
    • Saturday                      7:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
    • Sunday                        Closed
  • Peter’s Rest Convenience Center:
    • Monday – Saturday       6:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.
    • Sunday                         6:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

 

ST. THOMAS

  • Bovoni Landfill:
    • Monday – Saturday       6:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
    • Sunday                         6:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
  • Mandahl Convenience Center:
    • Monday – Saturday       6:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
    • Sunday                         6:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
    • Beginning May 2, 2021: Bulk Waste will be accepted every other week
    • Beginning May 9, 2021: Metal Waste/White Goods will accepted every other week

 

ST. JOHN

  • Susannaberg Transfer Station:
    • Monday – Friday          7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
    • Saturday – Sunday        7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

CRUZ BAY WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT UNDER REPAIR

 

(St. John) April 4, 2021 - The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) advises residents on St. John that the Cruz Bay Wastewater Plant is experiencing pump difficulties causing the overflow of the manhole at the Enighed barge entrance. Work is currently ongoing to remedy the problem.

 

VIWMA advises the public to avoid standing pools of water in this area and thanks the community in advance for their cooperation.

VIWMA ADVISES COMMUNITY OF COLLAPSED SEWER LINE

(St. Thomas, USVI) - The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) advises thecommunity of a collapsed sewer line on Veterans Drive near the western entrance to Frenchtownand Hurley’s funeral home, affecting both eastbound and westbound traffic.

 

Motorists are asked to take an alternate route and residents are asked to avoid standing water inthe area.

 

The VIWMA staff and contractors are working diligently to complete the repairs and thank thecommunity for their cooperation and patience.

LBJ PUMP STATION REMAINS OFF-LINE

 

St. Croix - March 30, 2021 - The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) advises the community of repairs being completed on the LBJ Pump Station which recently went off-line due to a mechanical failure. 

 

Currently, five (5) vacuum trucks are stationed throughout the affected area to remove wastewater from the sewer system to stop the overflow of wastewater in Christiansted town as VIWMA staff continue to work diligently to bring the station back online. Pedestrians are advised to avoid any standing water in the area. 

 

The VIWMA apologizes for the inconvenience and thanks the community for their patience and cooperation.
